Designing the next generation of biology.

Ligo Bio is a San Francisco-based biotechnology company using deep learning to advance enzyme design. By combining artificial intelligence with biological research, the company is developing new ways to understand and engineer proteins, opening up possibilities for scientific discovery.

As a young, ambitious team challenging established approaches to biotechnology, Ligo Bio needed a brand that could communicate both its disruptive thinking and scientific credibility. The challenge was to establish trust and confidence in an emerging company while capturing the ambition and potential of its work.

A distinctive visual identity and digital experience positions Ligo Bio as a serious player in the industry, engaging investors and audiences beyond the scientific community.

Biology as information.

Inspired by Ligo Bio’s approach to understanding biology through data, we developed a visual language that connects the computational and biological worlds. Starting with a simple grid of pixels, individual data points come together to form complex molecular structures, reflecting how AI can help decode and design proteins.

This concept formed the foundation for a series of branded animations, each exploring a different aspect of Ligo Bio’s technology. Together, they illustrate how Ligo Bio designs enzymes and how they function, translating complex biological processes into clear, engaging visuals that make the science more accessible.

Everything is connected.

Ligo takes its name from the Latin word for ‘to bind’, a concept that sits at the heart of its visual identity.

Inspired by molecular structures, the logotype features a distinctive ligatures symbolising the relationships between biology, technology and design.

This principle of connection extends into a modular graphic language inspired by molecular networks and biological systems. A matrix of pixels forms the foundation of the identity, creating patterns and textures that reflect the complexity of biological data while providing a flexible backdrop for typography, imagery and information.
